Easter Prayer for Healing Ministries Easter Prayer for Healing Ministries
BY BUTCH ODOM

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever!

Psalm 118:1

Creator God, who was, is and always will be, we stand in awe of your love for us which surpasses our understanding. We ask you during this season of resurrection to create in us a new heart with a deeper ability to love one another. And just as Jesus restored people through his healing ministry, may our congregation become a place of restoration for all.

How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!

Psalm 133:1

God of all, we come before you as unique individuals yet we are all your children. Help us treat one another as brothers and sisters in the tradition of our earliest Christian forebears when “…there was not a needy person among them.” May your spirit constantly guide and challenge us as we learn to care for one another’s bodies and spirits in new ways that give honor to you.

Answer me when I call, O God of my right! You gave me room when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

Psalm 4:1

Hear our prayer this day O God. Grant us wisdom to discern the needs of this congregation. Grant us courage to boldly face each challenge as an opportunity to witness to your healing power. As we move forward prayerfully, instill in us trust and patience to know that you answer all prayers.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff – they comfort me.

Psalm 23:4

Loving God, our great comforter, we acknowledge today we are your hands and feet. Guide us; nudge us into a higher level of service on behalf of one another. Help us be comforters to those in our midst who are sick. May our efforts on your behalf lead people toward green pastures and still waters, toward health and wholeness.

The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the LORD. May your hearts live forever!

Psalm 22:26

Sustainer God, help us recognize our own poverty so that we might better recognize the poverties with which others struggle. As we seek to lead our brothers and sisters toward health and wholeness, help us to understand their needs. May our congregation be a place of trust where none are silenced by fear or shame that often accompanies illness. Give us knowledge to understand how our gifts can bring comfort in your name to all of your children here.

O sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things.

Psalm 98:1a

Wonderful God, as we minister to our neighbor’s bodies and spirits, we move our community of faith toward wholeness. Bless our collective effort to love one another, for together, we can do marvelous things and help our community sing a new song.

They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all they do, they prosper.

Psalm 1:3

Almighty and loving God, may our health ministry offered to our brothers and sisters on your behalf make it possible for all to live abundantly. May our congregation create a stream of living water where all might find rich, faith-filled soil where healing flourishes and wholeness abounds.

We humbly ask this in the name of your risen son, Jesus Christ. AMEN.
